Start a party

Open a title on a supported service and press play. Click the TellyJam icon in your toolbar and choose Start a party. Copy the invite link from the sidebar and send it to your friends. On Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video you can also choose Watch together on a title’s page, before you press play.

Supported services

Other sites

On another site with a video, click the TellyJam icon and choose Use TellyJam on this site. Your browser asks you first, and TellyJam runs only on that site. When friends join a party there, TellyJam asks them the same question before it opens the page. Turn a site off any time in TellyJam’s settings, under Other sites.

Join a party

Open the invite link and select Join the party. If TellyJam is installed, it opens the right title for you and joins. Each person needs their own subscription to the service.

Install TellyJam

TellyJam works in Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox on a computer. Install it from your browser’s extension store: the Chrome Web Store for Chrome, Edge Add-ons for Edge, and Firefox Add-ons for Firefox. Edge can also install it from the Chrome Web Store.

TellyJam is coming to the Chrome Web Store soon. Edge can install it from there too.

TellyJam is coming to Firefox Add-ons soon.

Start a party from Discord

Add TellyJam to your Discord server, then type /tellyjam with a link to a title on any supported service. TellyJam posts the invite in the channel with a Join the party button. Add a start time and the post shows it in everyone’s own time zone, with a countdown.

Only you get the host link, in a message nobody else sees. Open it with TellyJam installed and you start as the host. Someone who can manage the Discord server adds TellyJam once; it needs no other permissions.

Polls, the queue and asking for a pause

Use your phone

In the sidebar menu, choose Use your phone and scan the code with your phone’s camera. Your phone joins as you: chat, react, vote, talk on the call, and play or pause when the party lets you, while the show plays on your computer or TV. No app needed. The code works once, for 10 minutes. Keep it to yourself: whoever opens it acts as you.

Hosts: keeping a party friendly

Open Settings in the sidebar. You can let only hosts control playback, turn on a waiting room, set a passcode, slow down chat, and lock the party. In the people list, a host or co-host can mute someone in chat, remove them, or ban them. A ban also keeps out everyone on the same network, such as a household or an office.

Playback isn’t in sync

Ads

When someone hits an ad break, the party waits for them and shows who it is waiting for. Anyone who controls playback can choose Don’t wait. Hosts can turn waiting off in Settings.

Calls

Up to 6 people can talk and see each other in the sidebar, for free. Each person has their own volume, up to 200%. The show gets quieter while someone talks; turn that off in Settings.

Friends and chats

Friends is off until you turn it on, from the TellyJam icon or the Friends page. There is no sign-up: your TellyJam ID lives in your browser. Friends see your name and avatar, and, if you let them, when you’re online and when you’re in a party.

Keyboard shortcut

Alt+Shift+W shows or hides the sidebar. Change it in your browser’s extension shortcut settings.
